ABOUT
Geraldine Lustgarten is a Colombian fashion designer and creative director. She founded her label GERALDINE in 2017 and today designs capsule collections for retail brands.
"We all need a little motivation sometimes, a reminder that we have the strength and energy to face life's obstacles. That is what I wish my designs to be: the spark in your day that makes you feel extra." — Geraldine Lustgarten
From a very young age, Geraldine understood the transformational power of clothes. Born with a physical condition into a culture known for its impossible standards of female beauty, she took inspiration from her mother and the women around her, and found in fashion and the ritual of dressing up a form of expression and a path towards self-confidence.
Knowing she wanted a career in fashion, she moved to New York City to study at Parsons School of Design. There she developed an appreciation for impeccable tailoring and exceptional fabrics, and the city gave her feminine, eye-catching style a new edge. In 2017, she returned to her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, to launch her eponymous label. Her designs reflect the duality of the two cities that made her who she is: Barranquilla and New York.
MY PHILOSOPHY
My story, inseparable from the condition I was born with, begins with my mother. It was from her, a fearless woman with a taste for unconventional beauty, that I inherited my love of fashion, as well as my courage. She taught me that although we can't choose how we are born, we can decide how to face life. Success is always an option, whatever difficulties we have to overcome.
For as long as I can remember, I've dreamt of sharing those values through my own label. I know fashion can seem frivolous, but it never felt that way to me. The act of dressing was part of my recovery. When I look back at how I felt after every surgery, I can honestly say fashion was my best therapy. That experience gave me the need to design pieces that make women feel truly special, regardless of skin color, weight or any other physical trait.
Designing is a deeply psychological and personal process. I want my pieces to speak to women on an instinctive level, to give the woman who wears them room to grow and transform, and a little bit of joy. As a designer, my biggest challenge is to create objects of desire that never go unnoticed, yet are easy to wear and fit seamlessly into every woman's life. Bold yet unassuming.
TODAY
Since its launch, GERALDINE has been carried by boutiques in the United States and Latin America, including Intermix. Geraldine's work has been featured in Vogue México, Coveteur and FashionNetwork; she was a semifinalist for Designer of the Year at the Latin American Fashion Summit and a TEDx speaker.
Today, Geraldine designs capsule collections for retail brands, connecting her vision with each brand's identity, from silhouettes and fabrics to the final fit. Every collaboration carries the same conviction that started it all: what we wear can change how we feel, and how we move through the world.
GERALDINE is now an online brand. Its signature piece is The Mini Loop, a structured mini bag in Italian nappa leather with a bold chain, made to be noticed and easy to live with: the same balance that has defined Geraldine's work from the start.
